# Introduction to Compass

{% hint style="info" %}
Starting **September 24, 2026,** the previous Director UI is **deprecated** and is no longer available. All users must use the new Director UI consisting of:

* **Compass:** AI Agent that answers product and feature questions, helps troubleshoot issues, and assists with creating support tickets.
* **Refreshed navigation UI:** With a unified search and ask bar, breadcrumbs, a cleaner visual design, and simplified navigation for a more consistent experience.
  {% endhint %}

The refreshed UI introduces a modern visual design that is calmer, less cluttered, and aligned with Cresta's updated brand identity.

<figure><img src="https://2212331805-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F2JPoJHYz9G6yt6oRbidb%2Fuploads%2F01gAKeCsFzkFjKHQbZzp%2Fmain-header-vid.gif?alt=media&amp;token=d8c23459-250d-4572-8e5f-fcf9d94f794a" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Key benefits**

* **Get accurate answers faster**: Compass provides AI-generated answers grounded in Cresta's knowledge base instead of returning a list of documentation links.
* **Stay within Director**: Access support directly from Director without switching to a separate help site or support widget.
* **Create support tickets with less effort:** If Compass cannot resolve an issue, it guides you through a conversational ticket creation flow, identifies the ticket type, and submits the ticket, including file attachments, to Human Support. Compass automatically prepopulates your name and email from Director, reducing the information you need to enter when creating a support ticket.
* **Search from a single location:** Use the Compass-powered Search/Ask bar to find documentation, navigate to product pages, and check system status from one place.
* **Receive up-to-date information:** Compass retrieves answers from Cresta's actively maintained knowledge base, ensuring responses reflect the latest product documentation.

## Product Walkthrough

### Use Case Picker

The Use case drop-down is available at the top of every page. Search for a use case, select it, and switch between use cases without leaving the current page.

<figure><img src="https://2212331805-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F2JPoJHYz9G6yt6oRbidb%2Fuploads%2FqDMXs7zoX39fBvB5QpZH%2FUsecase.png?alt=media&amp;token=2d099f4f-029e-418e-9f91-788911f8bcbc" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Note:** If you have a specific use case selected, such as **Ocean Vacations**, and then navigate to a page that displays data across the entire organization, the use case selector automatically changes to **All use cases**. This makes it clear that the information shown includes data from all use cases, not just the one you previously selected.

This behavior applies to pages such as:

* **Dashboard Builder** (except the **Categories** tab)
* **Admin** > **Org Management**
* **System Config** > **Data Management**
* Other pages that display organization-wide data

### Breadcrumbs

The refreshed navigation introduces the discovery category, minimal page reorganization, and breadcrumb navigation. Breadcrumbs show your current location within the product and use case, making it easier to navigate complex areas of Director.

The breadcrumb trail appears at the top of every page and lists the current navigation path. Click any breadcrumb to return to that page. For example, if you are on the Opera > Checklist page, click Opera to return to the Opera page.

| **All Systems Operational** | Click All Systems Operational to open the Cresta status page and view the current system status. |

### Compass Support Agent

Compass is an AI-powered support agent built on Cresta's first-party AI Agent platform. Use Compass to ask questions or create support tickets.

* Click the Cresta Support Agent icon in the upper-right corner to open Compass. Enter your question in the chat.

  <figure><img src="https://2212331805-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F2JPoJHYz9G6yt6oRbidb%2Fuploads%2FbkJnyQzL5eOvcqpW1685%2FCompass%20Chat.png?alt=media&amp;token=ad5bdd4a-c2bf-4db0-9845-48209cdefe96" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>
* Compass generates responses using Cresta's knowledge base ([docs.cresta.com](http://docs.cresta.com/)). Each response includes an answer and the source documentation. Sign in to the documentation site to open the referenced documentation.
* Each response also includes options to copy the response and provide Like or Dislike feedback. If you select Dislike, choose the reason for your feedback.<br>

## Director Navigation

We've reorganized the Director navigation to make it easier to find related features. This update only changes how pages are organized in the navigation. No features or functionality have changed. Some pages have moved to new sections, a few have been renamed, and new sections have been introduced to better group related features.

<figure><img src="https://2212331805-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F2JPoJHYz9G6yt6oRbidb%2Fuploads%2FZPe1dabaMmPzK34Bh9Gz%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=0583050e-fe03-416a-8fa5-28802d500109" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.cresta.com/readme/introduction-to-compass.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
